Aalberts Surface Technologies Ltd is a leading supplier to Aerospace, Defence and Automotive OEMs and manufacturers across Europe and across the globe. The division formerly known as Acorn Surface technology has been a leading name in the provision of surface coating technology on precision engineered components for over 40 years. Although Hard Anodising is at the core of the business the range of coatings and treatments has been expanded to include Sulphuric and Chromic Anodising, Aerospace-standard wet paint processes, IVD Aluminium Vacuum Coating, PTFE and lubricated coatings, Chromate and Non-Chromate Conversion coatings, and NDT (Penetrant Flaw Detection). To achieve the highest levels of performance it is sometimes necessary to specify a combination of processes on the same component, this requires the special skills of selective coating, masking, and multi-processing – all of which are a key part of the service.

Ongoing development of the business continues to increase the range and capacity of specialised surface engineering coatings that are available, which was enhanced with the merger of Aalberts surface treatment Tamworth Ltd (formerly Impreglon) in 2014.

This increased our portfolio of coating processes to include combinations that are designed for specific applications, based on fluoropolymers, metals, plastics, ceramics, nanostructures, and powder coatings to optimize traction properties, corrosion protection, non-stick properties, and resistance to wear.

Established in 1986, Aalberts Surface Technologies was a part of the Impreglon Group with sister companies around the world. The Group was floated on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in the spring of 2006. The influx of investment allowed the Group to grow through acquisition and through product development. The founding CEO retired at the end of 2014 with the Dutch engineering company Aalberts Industries buying the shareholding. The division has also developed and grown with both shop floor expansion and the introduction of new coating technologies. The state of the art premises is located in the heart of Britain with easy access to the motorway network. We are ideally positioned to provide a quality service to all of our clients. Aalberts Surface Technologies OCT Ltd is a highly regarded applicator of coatings onto plastics. As our company name suggests, our speciality is in applying high quality optically clear coatings that enhance the function, performance, durability and appearance of thermoplastic products. Such coatings can be found on protective eye wear such as goggles, visors and face masks as well as instrument housings, signage, protective screens and display screens. The automotive, lighting and rail industries are users of such coatings on trim, lenses, covers, luminaires and switches.

Aalberts Optical Coating Technologies (formerly Optical Coating Technologies Ltd) now enjoys the benefits of a worldwide presence as well as additional resources to develop and promote its unique range of coating services. Investment in Optical Coating Technologies by Aalberts includes increasing the factory floor space by approximately 30%, additional curing ovens, an extension to the clean room, a more efficient CNC profiler and improved workshop facilities. Future investment will see additional coating plant and a purpose built office facility.
